Being a young blogger I have quite a different outlook from many of my fellow bloggers (most of whom I happen to know have about 15 plus years on me). My outlook, much like everyone’s, was forged by my background. Growing up in middle class South London in the 90s amongst writers and musicians, I didn’t ever really experience the misogynist, female oppressing world that is so often written about and portrayed in the arts. I was raised by independent men and women, artists and successful businessmen/women; there was never a question of inequality, and if there was, it had evidently been overcome, because I was unaware of it – and I may have been young, but even as a child I was unusually perceptive. I couldn’t remark on whether these women were regular viewers of pornography, but I think it was their attitude towards issues like gender (or rather their disregard for it) and the way they open mindedly educated us – their children – about sex and relationships that created my female peers; a group of intelligent, independent, artistic, sexual women in their early twenties who approach pornography with interest, and the same lust as our male counterparts.
So, for Lady Porn Day I am thanking and paying homage to all the incredible, sexual women who have come before me. Pauline Réage, Anaïs Nin, Angela Carter, Melissa P. as well as all the female bloggers I have read and learnt from, such as Mistress Matisse, Remittance Girl, Liras, Dark Gracie, Sadie Smythe… the list goes on. To each and every one of these women, and all the others I don’t have time to name, I thank you for forging a World where I can proudly own my sexuality without (too much) discrimination or oppression, and enjoy and share as much porn as I like!
And you never know, with the kind of girls universities and schools and parents are producing nowadays, we might just be lucky enough, in the not too distant future, to get some pornography that actually appeals to real women! I won’t go into this issue too much as I would just be repeating Remittance Girl’s articles #LadyPornDay and the Male Gaze and Conceiving of the unconceived – Hetero Women’s Porn, which you should all go and read. Suffice to say I am the kind of girl who will settle for gay men sucking and fucking or lesbians licking or pornography aimed at straight men, but in all these cases I am, as RG says, a voyeur. “This is borrowed gaze.” Nothing is quite what I’m looking for in that heightened moment of arousal. Thus I have no links for you. But I do have faith that sooner or later someone will produce pornography that actually appeals to me. And I don’t think it’s so very far off.
Happy Lady Porn Day.
Ahhhh….amazing! Ya know this past year I finally came out to who I am. A sexual strong woman not ashamed to share who I am…who we are….love ya girl!
I like the writers you mention too. But what about men writers of erotica? whilst we bemoan the lack of porn for women are there not lacks of porn/erotica for men too, especially in written form?
I only know three or four men who write hetero sex blogs for example, but lots of women!
I'm really very honoured to be in the company you list, and honoured that you've mentioned my posts.
Mostly, I'm just really glad we've come into a time when we can admit what truly lust driven, filthy sluts we are. :D
We might not find exactly the porn we want, but at least we can admit wanting to find it.
That, in my mind, is pretty amazing progress.
